National Service Scheme (NSS)

Aim of NSS

The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a programme organised by the Ministry of Education and Youth Services of the Government of India to offer opportunities and training in service to the community and the nation for students with an aptitude.

The National Service Scheme (NSS) aims to develop students into responsible citizens through voluntary community service. It fosters a sense of social responsibility, leadership, and empathy, empowering them to contribute positively to society.

The NSS aims to develop in its volunteers the dignity for manual work and respect and concern for our rural masses and also the capacity to identify and study community problems, to plan and to carry out welfare projects as a team. A variety of service programmes like Cleaning the Schools and villages, Blood donation, Free Eye Checkup, Planting trees, Coaching for Yoga, Training on First Aid, Awareness Rally etc. are done.

To work with/among People
To engage in creative and constructive social action
To gain skill in programme development
To enable his/hers for Self-employment
To promote the will to save the weaker section of the community.

Duties of NSS Volunteers

Identify needs, problem and resources of the Community
Plan programmes and carry out in action
Relate his learning and experience towards finding solutions to the problems Identified
Record the activities in his work diary systematically and assess the progress periodically and offer changes as and when needed
